I smell Spring & Easter in the air!

Centsational Girl is having a little Easter party today.  I'm linking up over there.

So even though I already posted about my Easter mantel, I thought I'd show you a few other things I've been doing around here to brighten up for Spring.

But first, here's another looksy at my Easter mantel, which I've finessed a bit since my last mantel post.

Sticking with the robin's egg blue theme, here's a few of the other Easter touches you can find in my main living area.

Couldn't resist showing you my favorite outdoor Spring prop!
Now that it's starting to look more like Spring outside (can you believe that our snow is STILL melting - ack!), I decided to brighten up my front porch.

My twin boys are super cute, but unfortunately, they don't stay still long enough to be good permanent decorations, so I decided to add some other touches too, haha.

I started with a few little pops of yellow.

I'm not that much of a yellow girl to tell you the truth.  But I've been stuck in a color rut (yup, turquoise!) and wanted to branch out a bit. Like my Spring pun? "Branch" out.  Get it?  OK, moving on!

I've also added a few whimsical touches here and there around the house for the kiddies, like this chubby little chick.  Just love him!

And here's a few little Spring and Easter touches in my 6-year old daughter's room. Her room is limey green and pink,so these sweet little bunnies and feather wreath match perfectly.  In fact, I may keep those bunnies out all year.

And, these were her very first rubber boots when she was 18 months old.  When we were cleaning out the basement a few months ago I discovered them in a bin of her old clothes, and decided that they were too precious to throw out or give away.  (I'm sentimental like that!) So here they sit, filled with bright pink gerber daisies, on her nightstand.  A perfect little Spring decoration.

If you're new here, I hope you'll come back again!

Until next time, happy {Spring} decorating!

My Easter Mantel {and other touches!)

Easter is still a month away, but I needed a little ray of sunshine given all the sadness of the past week.

Since creative energy is the BEST mood booster ever, I pulled out my Easter and spring stash. I managed to get my mantel completed, as well as a few other little spring touches.  Later in the week, I'll move on to my front door and entryway.

I normally do a bright and whimsy Easter mantel (think coloured eggs, gerber daisies, and a Happy Easter garland), but I decided to go a different route this year.  It's a little more muted and understated than usual.  But I am liking how it turned out. I really like how the 'vintage' bunnies look with the boxwood wreath and potted grass.

So what do you think? Would love your thoughts!

Keepin it *Real*: Awesome Egg Ideas!

Seems like more and more these days, "decorating eggs" means buying a bag of 'Made in China' coloured plastic eggs and a pack of foamie stickers from the dollar store.

Um, guilty as charged!

Hey, you can't knock cheap and fast.

Well, I don't know about you, but I long for the day when we decorated REAL eggs.

In our house, my 2 sisters and I were hard core egg dippers.  No wimpy 'hard boiling' for us.

We'd poke pin holes in each end of the egg, and blow the whites and yolk out before dying them.  More than one egg was crushed before it made it to the bowl of food colouring.  But that was part of the fun.

Well, this year, I'm going to try and restore that little tradition with my 6-yo daughter.  I am laying down a strict "no plastic eggs" rule. And, after seeing all these sweet Easter craft ideas made from 'cracked' egg shells, I won't be at all disappointed if she crushes a few along the way!

Check out these eggs-cellent ideas!
